The diesel fuel deal between Donald Trump, the President of the United States, and Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, has provoked anger among Ukrainian officials. Under this agreement, Moscow is allowed to supply Russian diesel fuel to global markets. This move is seen as a response to Washington's failure to comply with Kyiv's requests to stop attacks on Russian oil refineries.
Ukraine's Reaction to Trump's Deal
Donald Trump has also stated that it is time for Ukraine to have a new president. This agreement was released while negotiations were ongoing between representatives of Ukraine, the United States, and Europe in Miami. Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, told reporters: "I think our team is being used as a cover. This is certainly not fair" and described Trump's decision as "a weak decision from strong partners."

History of Tensions Between Kyiv and Washington
This is not the first crisis Kyiv has faced in its relations with the Trump administration. In February 2025, Trump told Zelensky, "You don't have the cards." This confrontation led to the suspension of arms deliveries and intelligence agreements. According to reports, U.S. special representatives, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, threatened during negotiations in Miami that they might also stop the exchange of information. U.S. officials have denied these reports.
Impacts of the Agreement on the Global Market
Mykhailo Honchar from the Ukrainian Global Studies Center "Strategy XXI" noted in an interview that the current tensions are reminiscent of the disputes in the White House at that time, but he believes that Ukrainians should not be alarmed. He added: "Last year there were also threats and the suspension of information exchange, and the Americans realized that this issue also harms them and inevitably resumed everything."
All experts emphasize that there is a connection between Trump's threats against Ukraine and the U.S. midterm elections on November 3. Ivan Ush from the National Institute for Strategic Studies in Kyiv predicts that Republicans will face a heavy defeat, and the main reason for this is high fuel prices.
Experts believe that Ukraine should wait until after the U.S. midterm elections and speculate that Trump may retreat on this issue after the elections.
