A U.S. Air Force F-16 (F-16 Fighting Falcon) crashed on Tuesday at Spangdahlem Air Base in western Germany. The incident occurred around 2:30 PM local time, and the pilot safely ejected from the jet and was immediately taken care of by emergency services personnel.

Incident Details

The U.S. Air Force announced that an investigation into the incident is underway. A spokesperson for the Air Force stated that more information will be released as it becomes available. German air traffic control informed the media that the fighter jet crash occurred after a training exercise involving several aircraft.

Emergency Response

Following the incident, other aircraft were moved to Ramstein Air Base, and rescue teams from the local fire department and disaster protection services in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm area were dispatched to the scene. Local officials reported that "one person was injured" and added that "emergency response actions have concluded." They also noted that they could not provide further details about the circumstances of the crash.

The U.S. Air Force operates F-16 fighter jets at Spangdahlem Air Base to support U.S. and NATO missions. This base is recognized as one of the key U.S. Air Force bases in Europe.

In October 2019, another U.S. Air Force F-16 crashed near Zemmer-Rodt, south of the base, during a training flight, at which time the pilot safely ejected and sustained only minor injuries.
