Vladimir Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, traveled to Norway on Tuesday to discuss recent tensions in his relations with Donald Trump, the President of the United States, and his administration. This trip occurs at a time when Zelensky has pointed to the lack of U.S. intelligence cooperation with Ukraine prior to the Russian attacks.

Constructive talks in Oslo

At a press conference following the meeting, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre described the session as "good and constructive" and said, "American and European teams have done essential work on key issues together with Ukraine." Zelensky also emphasized at this press conference that Ukraine is now receiving early warnings from its partners about Russian attacks.

He said, "We are grateful that information is working well and we are receiving early warnings. This is very important for our people, children, and adults, as we can hear that ballistic missiles are coming." Zelensky made these remarks alongside the leaders of Norway and Finland.

International tensions and Trump's statements

While Zelensky was in Norway, media reports indicated that Trump, Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, and Xi Jinping, the President of China, might hold a meeting to discuss Ukraine and other issues. Zelensky commented on this, saying, "I don't know what the trilateral meeting between the U.S., China, and Russia will be about, but if Ukraine is discussed, it is only acceptable if Ukrainians are present at the negotiating table."

Zelensky also criticized the agreement reached between the Trump administration and Russia for the purchase of Russian diesel fuel, stating, "These oil and gas export revenues are vital for the Russian economy and military efforts in Ukraine." Trump also criticized Zelensky for Ukraine's attacks on Russian oil facilities and the rising diesel prices.

The President of Ukraine further stated that he supports Trump's proposal to stop attacks on energy facilities but added that Russia has no intention of halting its attacks on Ukraine. At a recent European Union meeting in Brussels, Zelensky reacted with a smile to the suggestion that he is somehow a victim of the energy crisis.

Trump, in his remarks at the White House, told reporters that he wants Zelensky to reach a "deal" with Russia and added, "We have given Ukraine a lot of aid, but we have received nothing but sorrow, death, and great financial loss." He also referenced the case of Steven Hubbard, a retired American teacher who was detained in Russia on charges of collaborating with Ukrainian forces, stating that he discussed this matter with Putin.
