An airstrike on the village of Al-Shari'ah near Yemen's capital, Sanaa, resulted in at least 33 deaths. The Houthi Health Ministry announced this figure on Sunday and also reported that 39 others were injured.

Details of the Attack and Houthi Response

Yanis Al-Asbahi, spokesperson for the Houthi Health Ministry, mentioned in a post on the social media platform X that Saudi Arabia was responsible for these attacks. He also stated that the strikes hit several homes in the village. The Houthi-affiliated television network, Al-Masirah, released images of the attack showing extensive destruction and injured individuals in the hospital.

Background and Current Situation in Yemen

The Iran-backed Houthis have controlled Sanaa and large parts of western and northern Yemen since the start of the civil war in 2014. Saudi Arabia supports the internationally recognized government based in Aden. Last summer, a years-long ceasefire in the Yemen war ended, and the Houthis launched a new offensive, capturing areas along the Red Sea coast, including the port city of Al-Mokha and strategic islands in the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Rebel groups have also targeted sites in Saudi Arabia, including oil facilities and military infrastructure. According to a United Nations report, more than 1,600 people have been killed and over 300,000 displaced since the escalation of hostilities.

On Saturday, Yemeni government-supporting media reported that Yemeni government forces successfully repelled a Houthi attack in the Al-Aqroud front in Taiz province. Additionally, the Saudi-led coalition forces announced that they intercepted a missile fired by the Houthis towards Riyadh province in Saudi Arabia. On Friday, an airstrike on a market in southern Yemen resulted in at least 30 deaths, with Houthi officials also making reciprocal accusations regarding this incident.
