According to data from a flight tracking platform, this flight sent the code "7700," which is a public alert signal, at the time of deviating from its route. Following this incident, a Bulgarian MiG-29 fighter jet was put on standby to escort the aircraft.
Security Measures After Landing
After the aircraft landed and passengers were evacuated, a security inspection of the plane began. Austrian Airlines stated in a release that once the inspection was completed, passengers would be quickly transferred to alternative flights. This incident occurred while last month, a second pilot of a Flydubai flight was suspected of attempting to attack the pilot and hijack the aircraft in Israel.
Also, last week, a false alarm from a commercial flight from Corfu in Greece to Nuremberg, Germany, caused fighter jets from both Croatia and Germany to be put on standby. These security incidents highlight the ongoing challenges in the aviation industry and the need for stronger security measures on international flights.
