The Director of the German Foreign Intelligence Service (BND) warned of the increasing risk of conflict with Russia during a public session before the Bundestag, stating that the country is currently conducting a hybrid warfare campaign in other European countries.

New Dimensions of Conflict with Russia

Martin Schaefer, the BND Director, stated in this session: "The confrontation we have with Russia has taken on new and more dangerous dimensions." He emphasized that Germany is at risk of becoming part of a violent conflict with Russia. This warning comes as relations between the two countries have become highly strained in recent months.

Russia's Hybrid Warfare Campaign

Schaefer referred to Russia's actions, which include cyberattacks, disinformation, and economic crises in neighboring countries. He said: "We are clearly witnessing an increase in threats arising from these campaigns, and this is very concerning for our national security." According to him, these threats include potential risks to critical infrastructure and government institutions.

This warning comes at a time when tensions in Europe have escalated due to the war in Ukraine and increased Russian military activities near NATO borders. German officials are also concerned that these actions could lead to internal unrest and increased migration from the affected countries.

Impact on Germany's National Security

The BND Director also pointed to risks associated with advanced technology equipment from China, stating that these products could harm Germany's national security. He mentioned that data collected from these products may be transferred to government institutions, which could lead to serious security issues.

These warnings clearly reflect Germany's growing concern about the security situation in Europe. Given that threats are continuously evolving, Germany must adopt appropriate strategies to address these challenges.
