Previous Arrests and Officials' Statements
Five British nationals from London were arrested on September 27 due to a report about suspicious vehicles near RAF Fairford. This base is used by the United States Air Force. They were arrested on suspicion of offenses under the Explosive Substances Act and subsequently for preparing a terrorist act. These individuals were later released on bail but remain under investigation.
Andy Burnham, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, stated in an interview with the BBC that the UK believes Iran "played a role in this incident." Earlier this year, the UK granted the United States Air Force permission to use RAF Fairford for conducting "defensive" strikes against Iran. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had previously warned the UK that British military bases used by the United States for attacks would be legitimate targets.
