Carmelo Anthony, basketball player and NBA Hall of Famer, with 28,289 points in his 19-year career, is recognized not only as an athlete but has also joined the ranks of professional art collectors. Anthony has recently moved from his New York apartment to a larger suburban home to accommodate his art collection.

Interest in Art and Collecting Works

Anthony says about the number of his artworks: “I’ve stopped counting.” He values the quality of art pieces and is not following current trends. His interest in art began in childhood, influenced by street graffiti and album covers of the band Earth, Wind & Fire. He has been familiar with the works of various artists such as Ernie Barnes and Nelson Makamo since his youth.

Anthony's Artistic Future

In the post-basketball era, Anthony continues to invest in various fields such as wine, marijuana, clothing, and production companies. He views art as an endless opportunity and may explore painting in the future. Anthony wishes to present his collection to the public, with Baltimore being his preferred location for this purpose. He chose it due to his emotional connection to the city, stating: “Many of my pieces are related to the feelings I have for this city.”

Anthony advises other athletes and anyone interested in the art world not to rush in this journey and to take their time. He says: “If that piece draws you in again, know that it is the real deal.”
