Hackers have made millions of attempts to exploit a critical vulnerability in the PHP programming language. This language is one of the fundamental components of the internet, with about 70 percent of websites built on it.

Increase in Cyber Attacks

Matthew Prince, CEO of Cloudflare, a company that provides internet services and helps websites prevent cyber attacks, announced that the company has witnessed “millions” of attempts to exploit this vulnerability. He stated in a post on social media platform X that in the 10 hours prior to the public disclosure of this vulnerability, thousands of attempts were recorded, and afterward, within 45 minutes, this number rose to tens of thousands and then to hundreds of thousands within two hours.

Precautionary Measures by Governments

Cyber units in various countries have quickly responded to this vulnerability. Many European ministries have temporarily disabled their websites as a precaution. For instance, key websites in France, such as the Ministry of Justice and the Data Protection Authority, are undergoing repairs. Additionally, Amazon's cloud division has also announced that this vulnerability is being widely exploited.

Cybersecurity Status in the Netherlands

Matthias van Amelsvoort, head of the Dutch Cyber Agency, stated that the agency has no signs of active exploitation of this vulnerability, but given advancements in artificial intelligence, this situation may change. The agency had also temporarily disabled its website, which has now been reactivated.

Overall, the trend of cyber attacks targeting the PHP vulnerability highlights serious threats to global cybersecurity and underscores the need for immediate and effective responses from relevant authorities.
