Donald Trump, the President of the United States, announced that he will not give an order for a military attack on Iran before the midterm elections on November 3. This announcement from Trump came on Thursday after two American media outlets reported that he is considering military options against Iran.

Reasons for Not Attacking Iran

The Atlantic magazine reported, citing its sources, that Trump prefers to maintain a relative calm in the conflict with Iran after the elections so that this heavily criticized war remains out of the media spotlight. The United States has not attacked Iran in recent weeks.

A U.S. Department of Defense official told Axios that the department's duty is to be prepared for potential attacks on Iran if ordered by the President. Trump had also indicated at the United Nations General Assembly that he might escalate the conflict with Iran.

Economic Situation and Its Impact on Elections

Fuel and gas prices in the United States remain high, and many voters are under pressure from rising food and other commodity prices. These issues could impact Trump’s Republican candidates. Additionally, the economy is one of the main concerns for voters in this midterm election, where American citizens will vote for members of Congress.

In his social media post, Trump also stated that his team has had "constructive discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran." This announcement came after he publicly rejected Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz at the end of September. The Strait of Hormuz is a vital waterway through which one-fifth of the world's oil passes.

Iran also announced last week that it has received a counter-proposal. This comes as Trump recently stated that more military forces have been deployed to the Middle East. According to the Wall Street Journal, a third strike group of aircraft carriers and thousands of soldiers will arrive in the region by the end of November.

Given the current situation and economic concerns, it seems that Trump is trying to avoid military tensions before the elections and focus on domestic issues.
