Greg Stanton (JD Vance), the U.S. Vice President, stated at the All-In meeting in Los Angeles that Washington cannot allow its Middle Eastern policies to be "subservient to the Israeli government." This candid remark from one of the prominent figures of the Trump administration and a Republican candidate for the 2028 elections reflects changes in America's approach towards one of its key regional allies.
New Approach to Neighborhood
Stanton emphasized at the meeting that Israel remains an important partner in military and intelligence technology, but the United States will not automatically follow the Israeli government's positions on security issues. He said, "We will work with the people and when we have disagreements, we will express them and pursue American interests."

These remarks come as relations between the United States and Israel have become increasingly complex. On February 28, the Trump administration and Israel attacked Iran, which initiated a war in the Middle East and led to rising energy prices and disruptions in maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical point for fuel transportation.
Diplomatic Challenges
The Israeli parliament praised President Donald Trump last year for the United States' role in the release of Palestinian hostages in Gaza. Israeli Defense Minister Isaac Katz thanked Trump on March 5 for his "great support for Israel" and described the cooperation between Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a "historic change for the region and the world."
However, Stanton warned in June that Israel should be cautious in its relations with Washington and avoid disrespecting the country. These remarks angered parts of the Israeli diplomatic community as well as some Republican supporters of Israel. His defense of the ceasefire agreement with Iran at that time diminished his credibility among some Republican donors supporting Israel.
Stanton also praised Trump for his ability to break agreements with Netanyahu at times when American and Israeli interests diverged. He said, "Donald Trump is a president who has been willing to say that yes, Bibi (Netanyahu) is a good partner, but we have a different opinion on this matter."
Stanton also compared the relationship with Israel to America's alliances with Europe, stating that U.S. policies should not be "subservient to NATO."
