Ismail Baqai, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, criticized the diplomatic approach of the United States in response to recent statements by Marco Rubio, the American senator. Baqai wrote on his social media account on X that the failure of the U.S. administration to adhere to the principles of diplomacy and its habit of breaking promises and relying on force and pressure has nothing to do with the 'religious beliefs of Iranians.'

Emphasis on Political Rationality

Baqai stated that religious and spiritual beliefs do not inherently conflict with political rationality, and added that being secular cannot guarantee wisdom and realism. He said: "What leads to a deadlock in logical negotiations is not the religious beliefs of Iran but the result of the U.S. negotiation model, which is nothing but an effort to dictate unilaterally instead of real diplomacy." The spokesperson also referred to the imbalance in negotiations and said that one cannot expect concessions from the other side while refraining from making concessions themselves.

Need to Understand Interests and Concerns

Baqai emphasized that to assess the usefulness of diplomacy with Iran, one must understand Iran's strategic interests and legitimate security concerns instead of interpreting Iranian religious beliefs arbitrarily. He added: "Most importantly, you must cure your habit of dishonesty and breach of promises." These remarks come at a time when nuclear and diplomatic negotiations between Iran and the United States have faced serious challenges in recent months.

It seems Baqai is trying to stress the importance of mutual understanding and respect for the interests of both parties in negotiations, pointing out that real diplomacy requires a deeper understanding of existing realities. As tensions between Iran and the United States continue, Baqai's statements may indicate a sign of Iran's tougher stance against external pressures.
