John Kerry, former Secretary of State of the United States, sharply warned former President Donald Trump in an interview that any military attack on Iran could have dire consequences. He stated that the current international situation is so unpredictable that anything could happen, emphasizing that starting the post-election era with a military invasion would be a gross mistake.

Consequences of a Military Attack on Iran

Kerry explained in this interview that such an action would not only not affect the Iranians but would also push them further away from negotiations. He criticized Trump's decision to cancel the nuclear agreement that the Obama administration and other countries had reached with Iran in 2015, saying, "If Trump really intended to change the situation and achieve a better agreement, why has he not put any plan on the table?"

False Assumptions and Global Risks

Kerry further added: "In recent months, Trump has especially rushed toward war based on a set of false assumptions that have made life more expensive and dangerous for people around the world." He also stated that Trump has put himself in a disadvantageous position for negotiations and, despite this situation, believes that the U.S. can return to conditions close to the previous agreement.

The former Secretary of State said: "I don't think after the bombings and the martyrdom of the revolutionary leader and the outbreak of so much chaos in the region, it will be easy to claim that you can achieve something beyond what they had previously accepted." He continued to emphasize that bombing cannot erase the knowledge of bomb-making from people's memories.

Kerry pointed out the key point that "engaging in real diplomacy" can include several simultaneous paths, one public and the other confidential, which should be carefully coordinated with each other. He spoke about the importance of diplomacy in resolving international issues and emphasized the necessity of maintaining communications and dialogues.
