An incident at Six Flags Over Georgia amusement park in the United States claimed the life of a man and injured several others. This event took place on Monday, and according to eyewitnesses, a man fell from a roller coaster.

Details of the Incident

The incident occurred about 15 miles (24 kilometers) northwest of Atlanta at Six Flags Over Georgia. Lisa Cupid, chair of the Cobb County Commission, reacted to the incident by stating, "I cannot imagine the horror and fear that visitors and staff witnessed today, and my heart goes out to the family who lost their loved one."

Consequences of the Incident

Following this incident, Six Flags temporarily closed nine roller coasters in six other amusement parks. A park spokesperson stated that other attractions were closed as a precaution. This incident comes less than two weeks after Six Flags Magic Mountain in California announced it would retire the famous X2 roller coaster due to complaints related to serious brain injuries.

Although the park did not specify the name of the roller coaster involved in Monday's incident, local media released images of passengers being evacuated from the Goliath roller coaster. The Goliath roller coaster, built in 2006, can reach speeds of 113 kilometers per hour (70 miles per hour) and a maximum height of 61 meters (200 feet).

According to the amusement park's website, riders must "navigate sharp turns and fly over large hills." This incident marks at least the seventh death at Georgia amusement parks, which includes an incident in 2006 where a man suffered a heart attack while riding the Goliath roller coaster.
