A man in Erie, Pennsylvania, killed eight people in a mass shooting and then took his own life. The incident occurred at a home in Erie on Saturday.
Shooting Details
Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah stated that seven of the eight victims were related to the shooter, and the eighth victim was a family friend. The shooter had committed suicide due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound before law enforcement arrived on the scene.

Victims
Among the victims were a one-year-old girl and a five-year-old boy, and a pregnant woman also lost her life in the shooting. Lorah remarked, "Some scenes stay with you long after you leave them. This is one of those tragic scenes." He spoke about the eerie silence that prevailed when police entered the home.
The identity of the 45-year-old shooter has not yet been disclosed by authorities, and the motive for this massacre remains unclear. Police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
Messages of Support
Erie Mayor Daria Dolan expressed condolences to the families of the victims at a press conference, stating, "I am deeply sorry. What happened to you was horrific, and nothing can make this pain easier. But you should know that our entire community stands with you, and we are here to mourn with you and support you."
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro also reached out to Dolan and expressed his support for Erie. In a statement, he said, "I have spoken with Mayor Dolan and offered all my administrative support following the horrific mass shooting in Erie that took the lives of nine of our fellow residents." Shapiro expressed that "his heart breaks for these families" and he and his wife, Lori Shapiro, "are praying for their loved ones and the entire Erie community." Shapiro, a Democrat, has been advocating for gun control laws in his state and signed an executive order in 2024 to revive the Pennsylvania Office of Violence Prevention.
