The meeting of the leaders of the United States and China, Donald Trump and Xi Jinping, will take place in Washington. This meeting, aimed at strengthening the relations between the two countries and discussing important global issues, will culminate today with a dinner at the White House. It is expected that several senior technology executives will also attend the event.

Topics of Discussion in the Trump-Xi Meeting

Donald Trump, in his first comment on social media regarding this meeting, announced that a big day is ahead with Xi Jinping. He mentioned that topics such as artificial intelligence and machine learning are on the agenda. Trump also indicated his lack of interest in international cooperation in this field while referencing the oversight of the U.S. Department of Justice over artificial intelligence.

Xi Jinping also emphasized in a statement that the two countries should act as partners rather than rivals. He also referred to the friendly relations between the people of China and the United States, stating that the interests of both countries are heavily interdependent.

Details of the Meeting and Dinner

This historic meeting, recognized as Xi Jinping's first official visit to Washington in a decade, was warmly welcomed by Trump. Upon landing at the airport, Xi received a warm and ceremonial welcome. During this meeting, it is expected that the two leaders will discuss various topics including trade, the wars in Iran and Ukraine, as well as artificial intelligence.

Additionally, during this trip, Xi Jinping will visit the National Archives of the United States, where the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the country are kept. However, despite the deep differences between the two countries, holding this meeting seems vital to demonstrate stability at the global level.

Alongside these matters, Trump also referred to the issue of the freedom of Jimmy Lai, a pro-democracy activist from Hong Kong, and called for his release. Lai, who has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, remains a contentious issue in U.S.-China relations.

Finally, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessenet announced that the two countries have agreed to extend the trade ceasefire for another two months. This agreement allows both sides more time to negotiate economic issues.
