Pressure on the Iranian government, especially on the foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, is increasing. With the continuation of the war and failure in diplomatic efforts, internal tensions in the country have intensified, and some members of parliament are calling for Araghchi's impeachment. This pressure has particularly intensified following Araghchi's meeting with American negotiators on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Political tensions in parliament

Amir Hossein Sabati, a member of parliament, announced in a letter to Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the Speaker of Parliament, that he has registered the impeachment plan for Araghchi on the parliament's online portal. Additionally, Hossein Ali Hajideligani, another representative, stated that the parliament can use its oversight powers to advance the impeachment process. Analysts believe that these actions somewhat allow the Iranian regime to shift its responsibilities to elected bodies and moderate forces within the government.

The economic crisis and its impact on politics

The Iranian government is under severe economic pressure as oil exports, one of the country's key sources of income, have sharply declined. The resignation of Mohammad Hassan Paknejad, the Minister of Oil, has also added to this pressure. While he resigned for personal reasons, experts believe that the change in the Ministry of Oil will not affect the economic situation. Emad Shakri, an energy analyst, says that Iran relies on networks that allow it to export its oil despite sanctions.

Shakri also pointed out that opaque structures, especially during the sanctions period, are becoming entrenched, making it harder for the government to control key revenue flows. These developments are particularly concerning as some groups within the Iranian political system exploit oil sales to armed forces through clandestine channels.

Analysts warn that the political and economic situation in Iran may worsen in the coming days and weeks. In this context, the role of hardliners in the Islamic Republic has become influential in shaping public opinion and political supporters of the regime, which in turn may lead to heightened tensions.
