Russia announced that it will increase its attacks on military and industrial facilities in Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated in a message published on Telegram: "The attacks of the armed forces of the Russian Federation on military and industrial facilities, as well as related infrastructure in Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine, will be intensified."

Ukraine's Response to Russian Attacks

This threat came after statements from Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, indicating that Kyiv would attack the oil refineries of this country in response to Russian attacks. Zelensky stated in an interview: "The people of Ukraine should hold only the leaders of the Kyiv regime accountable" and added that Zelensky must fully take political and personal responsibility for this situation.

Attacks and International Support

On Saturday, Zelensky emphasized that Ukrainian forces "must respond to Russian attacks in any way possible," which increasingly target bridges around the Dnipro River in the capital. He said: "With attacks on our energy, we must respond to their energy. First of all, the oil refineries: what gives them money for this war."

Meanwhile, the Russian government accused Ukraine of trying to "disrupt voting in elections through terrorist attacks on civilian targets in Russian territory." The "United Russia" party, led by Vladimir Putin, largely controlled the results of the Russian legislative elections held from September 18 to 20.

The Russian threat to increase attacks was made on the same day that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz unexpectedly traveled to Kyiv to support Ukraine. During this visit, Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, reported that Russia had attacked the Northern Bridge road in the city.

Merz is expected to renew Germany's support for Ukraine with a new military aid package worth about one billion euros. This package includes generators, power stations, and repair kits worth 350 million euros to strengthen Ukraine's power grid, which is under attack.

Zelensky and Merz visited the National Academy of Sciences in Kyiv, which was recently targeted in an attack by Russian drones, resulting in two deaths and seven injuries. Zelensky described this attack as "deliberate."
