Russia began attacks on Kyiv and its surrounding areas last night. The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that these attacks targeted the Northern Bridge and the Meridien factory.

Details of the Attacks

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Northern Bridge was used as a route for transporting weapons and military equipment to Ukraine, while the Meridien factory is dedicated to the production of Flaymigo cruise missiles. These attacks have damaged several energy and industrial facilities in the Kyiv region and also affected a power station in the neighboring Zhytomyr region and a cargo ship in the Black Sea.

Situation of Citizens and Officials

Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, confirmed that attacks have been carried out on the Northern Bridge and added that the capital of Ukraine is in a "very difficult" situation regarding electricity, heating, and water supply. The temperature in the city dropped to zero degrees Celsius last night.

Timur Takachenko, the governor of the Kyiv region, announced that energy facilities in three areas of this region have been targeted. Ukrainian officials also reported that one person has died in this attack and eight others have been injured.

Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, stated in a social media post that Russia used 172 drones and 36 ballistic missiles in this attack. He added that Russia is trying to "bring Kyiv and the entire country to darkness" and once again called for increased support from the United States.

Russian airstrikes have increased in recent months targeting primarily energy infrastructures and major cities. These attacks have also damaged bridges.

The mentioned attacks occurred just a few days before the fourth round of trilateral negotiations between Kyiv, Moscow, and Washington in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Previous rounds of negotiations mediated by the United States failed to achieve meaningful agreements, and issues related to territory and security remain key points of contention.

On Friday, Donald Trump, the President of the United States, announced that the war might soon come to an end and he envisions a "beautiful and big deal" with Moscow that includes "all of Europe."

Also on Friday, a six-day local ceasefire in the occupied city of Oleshky in the Kherson region allowed for the evacuation of about 800 residents. This ceasefire was mediated by Melania Trump, the First Lady of the United States.
