This new attack follows several strikes on the Southern Bridge in Kyiv over the past two days during consecutive drone attacks by Russia. These assaults have disrupted traffic in Ukraine's capital, causing long queues of cars and buses on major streets.
Impact on Infrastructure
Kyiv is known for its eight major bridges that connect the western and eastern banks of the Dnipro River. These bridges play a vital role in the transportation and communication of the city. Due to the ongoing attacks, the capital's critical infrastructure is at risk. Since the Russian military invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Kyiv has frequently been targeted by airstrikes.
Last week, Russia began attacks that Ukrainians see as the start of a winter bombing campaign targeting the capital's energy supply facilities. These attacks have raised serious concerns about energy supply and the safety of citizens, especially during the cold season. Russian officials have previously denied any systematic targeting of civilians.
