Russia's airstrike on two passenger buses in the city of Kramatorsk, Ukraine, on Thursday killed at least 30 people and injured 18 others. This attack occurred while Kramatorsk is recognized as one of the key cities under Ukrainian control in the Donetsk region.
Details of the Attack
The Donetsk regional prosecutor's office confirmed the casualty figures on Telegram. Additionally, the regional governor's office provided similar statistics and announced that public transport services have been completely halted. Governor Vadim Filashkin stated that Russian forces are deliberately targeting civilian transport.

Analysis of Humanitarian Aspects
Filashkin added: "For them, a bus with passengers is an attractive target because an attack can lead to the deaths of more people." He also noted that Russia deliberately ignores all conceivable rules of war and international humanitarian law, selecting targets that can inflict the most harm on civilians.
This incident occurs as Kramatorsk is considered a vital military logistics center during the war and is at the forefront of the conflict in the Donetsk region. Russian forces have advanced towards the eastern outskirts of the city, and local officials have urged remaining residents to move to safer areas.
Social and Humanitarian Consequences
Filashkin emphasized: "In such circumstances, we have no right to endanger the lives of passengers and drivers. The safety of Kramatorsk and Sloviansk residents is currently a priority." Initial reports indicated 12 dead and 14 injured, but the official figures rose after further investigations.
Attacks on civilians and public infrastructure during the Ukraine war have significantly increased, raising serious concerns about human rights and international law. This incident highlights the severity of the violence and its direct impact on civilian lives.
