Sajjad Haider, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, emphasized the importance of restraint between Iran and the US in his weekly press conference held today, Friday. In response to reporters' questions about the recent visit of the Commander of the Pakistan Army to the Islamic Republic of Iran and ongoing developments in the Middle East, he urged both sides to adhere to their commitments under the Islamabad agreement.
Status of Shared Borders with Iran
Haider did not provide a clear position in response to a question about the status of Pakistan's shared borders with Iran following remarks by Asim Munir, the Commander of the Pakistan Army, who mentioned the openness of the borders in Tehran. He stated that he does not have a report on the ground situation of the borders and therefore cannot comment.
Pakistan's Position on Sanctions
Sajjad Haider also provided explanations regarding the impact of unilateral sanctions on Iran-Pakistan relations and his country's position on this matter. He noted Pakistan's commitment to international obligations, stating, "We act according to our commitments to sanctions that can be applied." Haider added that Pakistan believes in international arrangements in relations between countries and, as a mediator, calls for restraint and giving diplomacy a chance.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan further responded to a question about Iran's positions on nuclear materials, stating that these issues are related to Iran-US relations. He emphasized that what falls within Pakistan's purview is support for diplomacy, dialogue, de-escalation, and advancing mediation.
These statements come at a time when tensions in the Middle East have increased, especially following recent diplomatic visits and political developments in the region. Pakistan, as a neighboring country and mediator, is seeking to create the necessary frameworks for de-escalation and constructive dialogue between Iran and the US.
