The Culture, Media and Sport Committee of the House of Commons will hold an evidence session to investigate the reasons for this country's failure in the Eurovision competition. Caroline Dinenage, the chair of this committee, announced that the session will take place in the coming months.
Examining the UK's Poor Record in Eurovision
This committee will look into what Dinenage has described as the "poor record of the UK in recent years." In this year's Eurovision contest in Vienna, the song "Eins, Zwei, Drei," presented by British YouTuber "Look Mum No Computer," finished last with only one point.

The UK, as one of the largest music producers in the world, internally selects its representative for Eurovision through the BBC. Due to the BBC's participation, the country automatically qualifies for the final of this competition, but despite this, the UK has frequently placed in the lower half of the table over the past 15 years. The only exception in this period was Sam Ryder, who finished second in 2022 with the song "Space Man."
Analyzing the Reasons for Failure
The committee expects to hear from knowledgeable figures at the BBC and the music industry whether the UK's poor record is the result of bad song choices, weak performances, or other factors. Dinenage pointed out that this investigation seeks to uncover the real reasons behind the UK's failure in this major music event.
The BBC has yet to announce its representative for next year's contest, which will take place in May 2027 in Burgas, Bulgaria. This contest has recently been affected by sanctions from several countries due to Israel's participation. Dutch networks AVROTROS and RTÉ Ireland have announced that they will not participate in next year's contest.
Given the history of the UK's failures, this committee is looking for solutions that can help improve the country's results in Eurovision while also focusing on the quality and appeal of British pop music.
