The Ukrainian Prime Minister, Denys Shmyhal, has warned that his country is facing a $20 billion shortfall in its defense budget. This issue arises as Russia has intensified its attacks in Ukraine, and Kyiv is facing numerous challenges to protect its skies and continue economic activities.
Pressure on Ukraine's Financial Resources
With the increase in Russian attacks, pressure on Ukraine's financial resources has also intensified. Shmyhal pointed out that this budget shortfall could negatively impact Ukraine's ability to defend itself. He emphasized that there is a greater need for international assistance to fill this financial gap than ever before.
In addition to military challenges, Ukrainian farmers are also facing difficulties. They are struggling to get their products out of war-torn areas, and this situation has added to the country's economic problems. Many farmers in the eastern and southern regions are facing severe restrictions, which could lead to a decrease in agricultural production.
EU Commission and Governments Meeting
Meanwhile, the European Commission and EU governments held a two-day meeting to discuss how to allocate the future budget of the Union. This meeting was held to determine how to manage part of the €865 billion EU budget. Topics such as resource allocation and budget control were among the issues discussed at this meeting.
Additionally, the Commission is working to develop an independent alternative to Microsoft Teams. However, this project has faced criticism and negative feedback, and it seems to have failed to win users' approval. This highlights further challenges the Commission is facing.
Overall, Ukraine is in a difficult situation, and the need for financial and military support from the international community is felt more than ever. Given the current circumstances, it is unclear how the country will navigate through this crisis.
