ADAC (German Automobile Club) announced that the new law allowing gas stations to raise prices only once a day at noon has failed to help reduce fuel costs and should be revoked.

Flaws of the New Law

Although this law has significantly reduced the number of price changes throughout the day and made predicting price increases easier, according to ADAC, the gap between the highest and lowest prices has widened. This has created problems for drivers who need to buy gas immediately after noon and imposed unfair costs.

Price Increases After the Implementation of the Law

An economic research institute named ZEW also reported in an April study that prices have increased on average after the implementation of this law. In particular, fuel prices typically rise in the afternoon, while they are cheaper in the morning. These studies indicate that the government's attempt to alleviate financial pressure on drivers with this law has not succeeded.

Fuel prices in Germany and across Europe have risen sharply, particularly due to the repercussions of the war in the Middle East. ADAC reported that the average price of gasoline in Germany reached a record high on Thursday, with the price of each liter of E10 fuel at €2.308 and each liter of diesel at €2.471.

Reduction of Energy Tax

ADAC also welcomed the temporary reduction of the energy tax, which is set to take effect from October 1, considering it the most realistic way to reduce the financial burden on drivers. These changes come amid ongoing concerns about the continuous rise in fuel prices in the market.

Increase in Drowning Deaths in Summer

In addition to fuel price issues, a lifeguard association has reported an increase in drowning deaths in Germany. This increase, following an unusually warm summer, has risen from May to mid-September compared to last year.
