Bridget Phillipson, the leader of the Labour Party, announced at the Labour Party conference in Liverpool that the Reform Party, led by Nigel Farage, is still considered the main threat to the Labour Party. Despite the fact that Farage's party has seen a decline in polls, Phillipson stressed that this party remains organized and operates with sufficient financial resources.

Concerns about the Conservative Party

Phillipson, referring to the Conservative Party's defeat in the 2024 general election, emphasized that this party should be regarded as a serious threat. She stated that the Conservative Party, under the leadership of Kemi Badenoch, has gradually improved in the polls and should not be overlooked. She referenced the historical electoral successes of the Conservative Party and said: "History shows how this party can perform successfully, but they have never been able to come to terms with the reasons for their defeat in 2024."

Financial challenges for the Labour Party

Phillipson also raised the Labour Party's concerns about financing elections in another interview. The Labour Party is exploring ways to impose restrictions on party spending ahead of elections. Currently, there are no limits on the amount of financial contributions that individual donors can make to political parties, but contributions over £11,180 must be reported to the Electoral Commission.

She also emphasized that stringent restrictions that would not benefit the Labour Party could impact union finances. Phillipson mentioned that she has differing views on the policy of limiting individual contributions. She also stressed the importance of monitoring expenses, stating: "I am more interested in how to regulate spending than individual contributions, as I believe there are increasing challenges in this area."
