Technology leaders and cybersecurity experts in Europe have reacted strongly to concerns raised about the dangerous capabilities of artificial intelligence. These reactions follow numerous warnings from American companies about the potential dangers that AI may pose to humanity.

Criticism of Extreme Warnings

Many technology industry executives in Europe believe that extreme warnings like "doomsday" regarding AI hinder practical actions to enhance digital security. Greg Stanton, a senior executive in this field, stated, "Such concerns create barriers rather than being helpful."

These concerns have particularly increased following incidents such as the automatic infiltration of AI models into the Hugging Face platform this summer. Additionally, Jacob Coxon, a former employee of Anthropic, had warned that AI could soon hack anything and harm humanity.

Emphasis on Responsible Actions

Experts believe that there is a need to focus more on existing standards and regulations and to reduce attention to theoretical risks. Alexandru Vica, policy leader at Synthesia, said, "We need to spend more time implementing existing laws and standards and less on theoretical fears."

Marcus Hutchins, a cybersecurity threat researcher, also emphasized that many apocalyptic theories do not take into account the behavior and capabilities of hackers. He also referenced Anthropic's warning that an AI agent could take over the internet, stating that these claims have been ridiculed and dismissed in cybersecurity circles.

Ultimately, even critics and skeptics of these concerns emphasize that advanced AI models are powerful cyber tools and that Europe needs access to these tools. They also believe that exaggerating the capabilities of AI and how hackers might use them could contribute to worsening the situation.
