The countries of Britain, Germany, and Poland expressed their support for Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, after statements made by Donald Trump, the President of the United States, who said that Ukraine needs a new leader.
Poland's Support for Zelensky
The Polish government, particularly Donald Tusk, the Prime Minister of the country, emphasized its firm support for Zelensky and wrote on social media X that he is "completely confident" that no one can defeat Ukraine and its President in the fight against Russian aggression. Tusk also stated that Poland and Europe will fully stand by the people of Ukraine.

Germany's Emphasis on Support for Zelensky
The German Foreign Minister, Johan Wadpol, also confirmed his country's support for Zelensky on Sunday and called for more pressure on Moscow to return to peace negotiations. He said: "We need stability and clarity alongside Ukraine."
This display of support comes after Zelensky and Trump exchanged sharp remarks on Saturday following Washington's decision to ease oil sanctions against Russia. Trump told reporters: "I think it's time for Ukraine to have a new president." He also criticized Ukraine's attacks on Russian oil facilities.
Zelensky announced on Sunday on social media that his country is ready to halt attacks on Russian oil refineries, "if Russia also stops its attacks on our energy infrastructure."
Britain also reiterated its support for Kyiv following Trump's statements. Wes Streeting, the British Defense Minister, said in an interview with the BBC on Sunday: "We stand with Ukraine. We stand with President Zelensky." He added that Ukrainians must decide for themselves who should lead their country.
Streeting also reminded that Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, started the war and can end it, adding that Britain's priority will be to work towards reconciliation between Kyiv and Washington.
On Saturday, Andy Burnham, the Prime Minister of Britain, spoke with Zelensky and confirmed Britain's full support. He also acknowledged that "the last 24 hours have been difficult for Ukraine" and promised to strengthen sanctions.
