Boldly, Danish Prime Minister Frederiksen strongly criticized the recent action of Alexander Stubb, the President of Finland, and Jonas Gahr Støre, the Prime Minister of Norway, in establishing contact with Vladimir Putin. She reproached these two countries for acting "alone" in this matter and stated that this contact was made without coordination with other countries.

Criticism of Lack of Coordination

While attending a Nordic leaders' meeting, Frederiksen told reporters: "I really have doubts about this Norwegian and Finnish initiative. This matter has not been coordinated with any of us." She also questioned: "Honestly, I do not know what these two countries aim to achieve with this contact." Frederiksen emphasized the necessity of maintaining unity in Europe and stated that different countries should not be allowed to act alone.

Positions of Finland and Norway

Stubb and Støre responded to the criticisms by stating that they consulted with Ukraine before establishing this contact and emphasized that they represent their countries, not Europe. Stubb described this conversation as "frank and fundamental," and Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed this contact, considering it the first conversation among the three leaders.

In this conversation, Stubb emphasized that "the outcome of this war will have a direct impact on our security and the overall security of Europe. Ending the war requires direct talks." Finland and Norway, both neighbors of Russia, have supported this country since the onset of the Ukraine war.

Consequences of the War

Støre also mentioned the human and material costs of the war during this meeting, stating: "This war comes with enormous human and material costs. The pain and destruction it causes will affect generations." Following this discussion, Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, also spoke with the Nordic leaders and emphasized that Finland and Norway will continue their support for Ukraine and efforts to find a just and sustainable peace.

These criticisms and comments come as tensions in the region remain high, and Nordic countries are seeking diplomatic solutions to end the Ukraine war.
