Friedrich Merz, the Chancellor of Germany, traveled to Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, on Sunday. This visit was accompanied by Katrin Göring-Eckardt, the German Minister of Economy, and a delegation of prominent economic figures from the country. Upon his arrival, Merz referred to the threats from Russia, stating: "If Russia is not stopped, sooner or later its war machine will come towards us."

Announcement of new German support

The Chancellor of Germany intends to announce new programs to support Ukraine against the Russian invasion during this visit. According to German media reports, Merz is expected to allocate new military assistance amounting to one billion euros to Ukraine and also provide 350 million euros for repairs in the country's energy sector. This assistance is designed to address Ukraine's urgent needs in the current situation.

Joint production programs

Merz will also introduce new programs for the joint production of anti-aircraft drones and long-range missiles between Ukraine and Germany during this visit. These plans aim to strengthen Ukraine's military capabilities against the Russian invasion and enhance defense cooperation between the two countries. This action represents a significant shift in Germany's defense policies, which seeks to increase the military capabilities of itself and its allies.

Merz's visit to Ukraine comes at a time when tensions in the region have significantly increased, and the need for international support for Ukraine is felt more each day. Germany, as one of the major powers in Europe, plays a key role in providing humanitarian and military assistance to Ukraine.

This visit is also seen as a strong message from Germany regarding its firm support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Merz will emphasize during this visit that Germany will continue to cooperate with its international partners to ensure that Ukraine is well-equipped against the threats from Russia.
