Mehrdad Lahouti, a member of parliament, expressed his views on the current state of negotiations with Western countries, particularly the United States. He emphasized that Iran has never sought war and has always been in a defensive position throughout contemporary history, especially during the eight-year war and other short-term conflicts.

Iran's Power Against Threats

Lahouti pointed out that regional countries have allowed powers far from their borders to attack American bases in the region due to their own mistakes. He added that Iran has responded to these threats with strength and capability, consistently demonstrating its power on the battlefield. The member of parliament stressed that the burden of negotiation has never ceased, and from the era of Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani to subsequent governments, negotiation has always been on the agenda.

Experience of Negotiations and Distrust of the Counterpart

Lahouti continued by stating that if there has been betrayal and breach of promise, it has always been from the counterpart. He emphasized that experience has shown that while pursuing diplomacy, Iran must also maintain its power at the negotiation table. The member of parliament asserted that Iran will not compromise on the legitimate rights of the nation, and the Americans must understand in negotiations that respecting the rights of the Iranian people is a prerequisite for reaching a result.

Lahouti also referred to the current situation of energy prices and their impact on people's lives, stating: "Events occurring in the world have raised energy prices and made life difficult for people globally, and consequently for the people of Iran." He also mentioned Iran's distrust of the U.S. government, Donald Trump, European countries, and some neighboring countries that, according to him, have betrayed Iran.

Lahouti concluded by stating: "We go to the negotiation table with distrust, but with the same strength and without compromising on the legitimate rights of the people, we will continue our path." These statements reflect the Islamic Republic's approach to negotiations and emphasize the preservation of the rights of the Iranian nation against international pressures.
