The French company Mistral on Tuesday unveiled its new AI model named 'Le Chonk'. This model is introduced as the largest open-weight AI model from the company, aimed at providing an option for users who want to keep their data private.
Features of the Le Chonk Model
The model 'Le Chonk', officially known as 'Mistral Large 4', is set to be publicly available on October 27. Additionally, cybersecurity experts and government officials will have access to a version of this model with fewer safety restrictions to test its capabilities.
This model allows users to download the 'weights' and set it up on their own servers. An open-weight model means that users can download the software and run it on their hardware. While top American models typically use closed models, many of their Chinese competitors benefit from open-weight models.
Mistral's Position in the AI Market
Mistral, recognized as one of the pioneers in the AI industry in Europe, has stated that its new model surpasses many competing open-weight models. Arthur Mensch, CEO of Mistral, mentioned at an event in Abu Dhabi that this model 'actually outperforms Chinese models in some areas', although he did not specify particular characteristics of these models.
The model 'Le Chonk' is the company's first new model in three years since the release of the last model in May. Mistral experienced the largest investment raise in European technology last month, securing 3 billion euros ($3.4 billion).
The company has positioned itself as a safer option compared to its main American competitors, especially in light of recent warnings about the dangers of AI. The reality is that these concerns have led some users to seek alternative options that better protect their privacy.
Given the increasing concerns about data security and privacy in the digital world, the model 'Le Chonk' could serve as a suitable solution for users looking to maintain their privacy. With this new model, Mistral is set to significantly impact the AI and data landscape.
