Nuremberg Airport was closed following a flight emergency from the Greek island of Corfu. This incident initially raised concerns about flight safety and passengers, but police ultimately confirmed that the danger was resolved.

Details of the Emergency Situation

According to the information provided, the aircraft approaching Nuremberg Airport sent an emergency code indicating a potential problem inside the plane. As a result, police took action to secure the airport and dispatched Eurofighter jets to escort the aircraft. The plane eventually landed safely, and no issues were reported for the passengers and crew.

Search for Suspicious Object

In the early hours of the morning, three pilots independently reported that a suspicious object might be a drone, which they observed during landing or takeoff at the airport. Airport officials, border police, and German air traffic control services immediately launched an extensive search, which included the use of a police helicopter. However, no evidence of a drone was found.

This situation led to delays in six flights, and two incoming planes bound for Cologne and Prague were diverted before continuing to Nuremberg. Initially, it was unclear whether these two incidents were related. Nevertheless, police emphasized that on-site investigations indicated no specific danger.

German airports have previously faced security alerts related to drones. In August, an explosive-laden drone was found near the runway of Leipzig/Halle Airport, prompting police investigations. Also, in May, a potential drone sighting caused flights at Munich Airport to be halted for about an hour, leading to over 20 incoming flights being diverted. In both cases, police found no drones.
