The Donald Trump administration has not yet made a final decision regarding the ban on diesel exports. These statements come as the oil and gas industry strongly opposes this idea, and some of Trump's advisors have also raised concerns.

Pressure to lower diesel prices

The Trump administration is under increasing pressure to take action to reduce record diesel prices ahead of the midterm elections. Trump announced last week that he might consider export restrictions. However, cabinet members and senior oil industry officials argue that such a move could lead to price increases for all types of fuel, including gasoline.

Trump said at an event in the Oval Office: "I am thinking about this issue. I talk a lot about it with [Chris Wright], the Secretary of Energy, and [Doug Burgum], the Secretary of the Interior. They believe this action could help diesel, but it may raise prices for other fuels."

Alternative proposals to lower prices

Trump also expressed hope that increasing oil flow from the Strait of Hormuz would lower prices. However, he did not say whether he has ruled out diesel export restrictions. He added: "This is something we think about and talk about every day, but it seems that this action would negatively impact gasoline prices, so gasoline prices might rise a bit while diesel prices might decrease a little."

[Chris Wright], who is strongly opposed to the ban and was present with Trump in the Oval Office on Wednesday, announced that the administration will soon announce measures to reduce diesel prices. He also noted that Europe will announce measures to increase supply to the market.

Wright said: "You will hear announcements from our friends in Europe about new diesel supplies entering the market, which will significantly lower diesel prices."

Exploring international solutions

Reports indicate that the Trump administration is considering whether to ask European governments to release diesel from their strategic reserves. This action is part of efforts to combat high prices and meet domestic needs.

Given the current market conditions and high fuel prices, these decisions could have widespread effects on fuel prices in the United States as well as in global markets. Trump and his advisors are exploring all options to find a suitable solution to this crisis.
