German youth will participate in nationwide protests on Saturday, October 31, 2026. These protests, inspired by their counterparts in France and other countries, demand better educational prospects and improved opportunities for the future.

Main Focus of the Protests

In Germany, organizers have announced a special focus on rejecting military service and also calling for greater environmental protection against climate change. They are concerned about the catastrophic consequences of global warming. These protests are particularly organized by the youth initiative "Gen Z regelt," which has been launched through a social media campaign.

Protests Held in Several Cities

This group is directly organizing four main protests in Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt, and Munich, and will also hold related protests in about 30 other cities. They explicitly demand peaceful protests without the violence seen in recent protests in France.

However, some conservative politicians, particularly from the Christian Democratic Union led by Olaf Scholz, have warned that similar scenes may be repeated in Germany. "Gen Z regelt" has criticized the misplaced focus on the potential for violence in these protests. One of the organizers of the Munich protest said at a press conference in Cologne: "This shows that our right to not be taken seriously and ignored is correct. No one wants to cooperate on issues concerning us, and instead, the topic of violence is always on the agenda."

However, some other representatives have supported the protests. Katrin Göring-Eckardt, leader of the Greens, told DPA: "Young people are rightly angry because the federal government does not pay enough attention to their demands."

As Germany prepares for a day of nationwide protests, officials in France are also preparing for new protests on Saturday. About 70,000 police officers have been deployed to oversee around 150 protests across the country.

Young people in Germany are seeking inspiration from student protests in France to make their voices heard in the face of multiple social challenges. These protests are particularly driven by dissatisfaction with poor educational conditions and demands for greater social equality, reduced oversight, and actions to combat global warming.
