Last night, Russia carried out a large-scale attack on Kyiv and southern regions of Ukraine, resulting in damage to civilian infrastructure in the cities of Kyiv, Odessa, and Zaporizhia.
Details of the attack and damages
The Kyiv city military administration stated in a statement that the attack damaged more than 10 different locations, including warehouses, an office building, residential buildings, and vehicles. According to reports, at least 18 people were injured in Kyiv, including a 10-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy.

Videos and images shared on social media show serious damage to buildings and urban infrastructure. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that "the enemy continues its attacks on the capital."
Use of drones and missiles
The Ukrainian Air Force announced that Russia launched 157 drones and a combination of ballistic and cruise missiles towards Ukraine in this attack. Ukrainian air defense systems destroyed 131 targets; however, 36 locations were hit, and missile debris fell in five other areas.
Zaporizhia was identified as one of the main targets of this attack, where three people, including a child, were injured, and a residential building was damaged.
Political consequences and sanctions
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky noted in a Facebook post that it is "symbolic" that the U.S. Congress passed a bill to sanction Russia on the same night that another attack was carried out by Russia, proposed by Lindsey Graham.
This bill, which was passed with a vote of 262 to 159, targets Russian energy revenues and grants the White House powers regarding tariffs on major buyers of Russian oil and gas. Zelensky described the sanctions as a "very powerful tool" that could push Moscow towards peace, stating, "Russia must end this war itself."
